Guide to Measuring for Curtains

Consider these three approaches to hanging curtains, which result in three unique styles.

Traditional Curtains

Create a traditional, tailored look by hanging curtains 6 inches above the top of the window, and a minimum of 3 inches beyond each side of the window. This helps to conceal the window frame with fabric while granting maximum light exposure with fully drawn curtains.

Tall Curtains

Create the illusion of taller ceilings and a larger room by hanging curtains close to the ceiling. Also, match curtains to the wall color to help make the walls appear to extend, and to prevent curtains from visually dividing the wall.

Extra Long Curtains

Create a luxurious effect by hanging extra-long curtains in such a way that the fabric puddles on the floor - as much as 9 additional inches.
